Black Dog Ride Penrith 2019

The Black Dog Ride is held simultaneously around the country in March each year. It’s primary goal is to raise awareness to Depression and Suicide Prevention.

I attended the Black Dog Ride 2019 here in Penrith in Sydney’s West, to offer my support to a very worthy cause.

Arriving in Penrith at 0630 on a Sunday morning, the rain was absolutely torrential, however that didn’t stop over 300 riders participating in the day, for Black Dog. After a good social catch up the start over a hot coffee, then a riders briefing, then off they rode, into the rain.

Approximately 2 hours of riding led them back to the Wallacia Hotel for Lunch, an Auction to raise Funds, and then some partying to a local band.

HARLEY-DAVIDSON ACCELERATES STRATEGY TO BUILD NEXT GENERATION OF RIDERS GLOBALLY

“More Roads to Harley-Davidson” Includes New Products in Additional Motorcycle Segments, Broader Access and Commitment to Strengthen Dealers
MILWAUKEE (July 30, 2018) – To inspire even more people around the world to experience the exhilaration of riding a motorcycle, Harley-Davidson today shared details of its “More Roads to Harley-Davidson” growth plan through 2022.

In a fast-changing world with new consumer demands, these accelerated actions support Harley-Davidson’s 2027 objectives with increased focus and strategic investment to reinvigorate the U.S. business while accelerating the pace of international growth.

“The bold actions we are announcing today leverage Harley-Davidson’s vast capabilities and competitive firepower – our excellence in product development and manufacturing, the global appeal of the brand and of course, our great dealer network,” said Matt Levatich, president and chief executive officer, Harley-Davidson, Inc. “Alongside our existing loyal riders, we will lead the next revolution of two-wheeled freedom to inspire future riders who have yet to even think about the thrill of riding.”

The result of a comprehensive, top-to-bottom assessment incorporating a “customer first” perspective, the More Roads to Harley-Davidson plan includes:

  • New Products – keep current riders engaged and inspire new riders by extending heavyweight leadership and unlocking new markets and segments
  • Broader Access – meet customers where they are and how they want to engage with a multi-channel retail experience
  • Stronger Dealers – drive a performance framework to improve dealer financial strength and the Harley-Davidson customer experience

“We expect this plan will result in an engaged, expanded Harley-Davidson community with a more diverse rider base, along with industry-leading margins and cash flow,” said Levatich.

New Products

Leveraging its industry-leading design and strong manufacturing capabilities, Harley-Davidson plans to offer its most comprehensive lineup of motorcycles, competing in many of the largest and fastest growing segments with a full portfolio of motorcycles across a broad spectrum of price points, power sources, displacements, riding styles and global markets. Highlights include:

  • Extending the company’s leadership in heavyweight motorcycles by continuing to develop improved, more technologically-advanced Touring and Cruiser motorcycles that will keep existing Harley-Davidson riders engaged and riding longer.

  • Introducing a new modular 500cc to 1250cc middleweight platform of motorcycles that spans three distinct product spaces and four displacements, starting with the company’s first Adventure Touring motorcycle, the Harley-Davidson™ Pan America™ 1250, a 1250cc Custom model and a 975cc Streetfighter model, all of which are planned to launch beginning in 2020. Additional models to broaden coverage in these product spaces will follow through 2022.

  • Developing a more accessible, small-displacement (250cc to 500cc) motorcycle for Asia emerging markets through a planned strategic alliance with a manufacturer in Asia. This new product and broader distribution is intended to fuel Harley-Davidson’s customer access and growth in India, one of the largest, fastest growing markets in the world, and other Asia markets.

  • Leading the electric motorcycle market by launching Harley-Davidson’s first electric motorcycle, LiveWire, in 2019 — the first in a broad, no-clutch “twist and go” portfolio of electric two-wheelers designed to establish the company as the leader in the electrification of the sport. LiveWire will be followed by additional models through 2022 to broaden the portfolio with lighter, smaller and even more accessible product options to inspire new riders with new ways to ride.

Broader Access

Harley-Davidson will advance its market delivery approach and meet today’s customer needs by:

  • Creating high-engagement customer experiences across all retail channels – including improving and expanding the company’s global digital capabilities by evolving the Harley-Davidson.com experience to integrate with and enhance the dealership retail experience for existing and new customers.

  • Establishing strategic alliances with global leading e-commerce providers to extend access to Harley-Davidson to a pool of millions of potential new customers.

  • New retail formats — including smaller, urban storefronts globally to expose the brand to urban populations and drive sales of the expanded Harley-Davidson product portfolio and expand international apparel distribution.

Stronger Dealers

Harley-Davidson’s world-class dealer network is an integral part of the company’s accelerated strategy and critical to overall success. The company will implement a performance framework to significantly enhance the strength of the dealer network and the customer experience, enabling the best-performing and most entrepreneurial dealers to drive innovation and success for themselves and Harley-Davidson — while providing the premium customer experience the brand is known for across an increasingly diverse product and customer base.

“Harley-Davidson is iconic because we’ve never been static,” said Levatich. “In moving forward, we are tapping into the spirit that drove our founders back in 1903 and every one of the employees and dealers who rose to the challenges faced along the way.  Our plan will redefine existing boundaries of our brand – reaching more customers in a way that reinforces all we stand for as a brand and as a company and we can’t wait to kick it into gear.”

Honda CB1000R 2018 Price Announcement

The new Honda CB1000R will hit dealers this month and will be available for about $16,499.

The 2018 CB1000R is a motorcycle that looks, feels and performs very differently from what’s come before and melds exhilarating function to a form that offers a radically fresh, visually stunning two-wheeled aesthetic.

Pinned against the Yamaha MT-01, it seems to be based on a Modern take of a Cafe Racer with the performance of a Street Fighter Naked bike.

Only six exterior parts are constructed from plastic, the largest being the svelte front mudguard. By contrast, what really makes its presence felt is the use of premium metal finishes; parts such as the burnished-aluminium radiator shroud and airbox cover; machined engine cases, cylinder head, and sprocket hub and flangeless steel fuel tank.

The result is a machine with a unique identity, a fusion of Sport Naked and bare-boned Café Racer inspirations.

2018 Honda CB1000R

The 2018 CB1000R elegantly combines more with less. It gives riders a huge amount of usable engine power with the control of a cutting edge Supersports machine with innovative, minimalist styling.

Its 998cc DOHC four-cylinder engine has been tuned to deliver its torque with strong character, offering more peak power at just over 10,000rpm and more torque right through the mid-range, where it’s most useful – and most fun.
The CB1000R has Throttle By Wire (TBW) with 3 pre-set riding modes plus a ‘User’ setting. Power (P), Engine Brake (EB) and Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) work together across the pre-sets to offer optimum benefit to the rider dependent on the conditions. The exhaust transmits a raw-edged howl as revs rise.

The 2018 CB1000R is 12kg lighter than the outgoing design, making for a 20% improvement in power to weight ratio. It’s also smaller, yet has a more relaxed riding position.

Supporting the radical new look is a box section mono backbone steel frame, with Showa Separate Function Fork Big Piston (SFF-BP) USD suspension up front and a Showa monoshock at the rear. Radial-mount front brakes, ABS and a 190-section rear tyre complete the chassis’ upgrade.

All lighting is LED and the thin, round headlight employs a horseshoe-shaped light ring, as well as a distinctive two-bar light signature. The rear light is also a semicircular light bar that fully lights up when the brakes are applied. The T-shaped instrument panel integrates into the top triple clamp, minimizing bulk, and the ignition switch is positioned at the front of the fuel tank.

Project Leader for developing the 18YM CB1000R Mr S. Uchida, said; “At Honda, our intention is always to look to the future and to be ready to lead. Hence, as the Naked sector’s requirements mature, we knew that we had to go much further than giving the new CB1000R a boost in real world performance. Customer expectation and interests are about much more than just ‘how fast?’

“We wanted to build in not only exhilaration and emotion to each experience of the CB1000R, but also real pleasure in owning, and showing off, such an individual machine. So we travelled in a new direction and are very proud of the result – both when out on the road and when admiring it in the garage!” Mr Uchida finished.

TOYOTA BOOSTS COROLLA HATCH PERFORMANCE

**Power increase, better economy for new petrol engine**
**New manual and CVT transmissions**
**Hybrid variants across the range**
Toyota’s next-generation Corolla hatch will gain a substantial boost to performance with the introduction of an advanced new 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. With an increase in engine capacity of 10.5 per cent, the new engine adopts Toyota’s latest combustion and control technologies to lift maximum power by 21.4 per cent to 125kW while peak torque has gained approximately 15.6 per cent to 200Nm.

While torque is higher at all engine speeds, two new transmissions contribute to improved fuel efficiency.

A new six-speed intelligent manual transmission is available with rev-matching on downshifts. The new gearbox is lighter and shorter, making it one of the world’s smallest transmissions, which contributes to improved fuel efficiency.

2018 Corolla Interior

The engine will also be available with an all-new Dynamic-Shift CVT with 10 programmed shifts as well as a sport mode and paddle shifters.

Its innovations include the world’s first launch gear in a passenger vehicle CVT, resulting in powerful and predictable acceleration.

New Corolla hatch, due in Australian showrooms from August, benefits from a new platform that underpins its sportier, more athletic design and a more engaging drive with improved handling and ride comfort.

The Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform delivers a low centre of gravity, improved front-to-rear weight balance and body rigidity that has been improved by 60 per cent.

The new range will be offered with hybrid variants across all equipment grades, expanding the line-up from the current model’s single hybrid variant.

The hybrid system is an improved version of the 1.8-litre Atkinson Cycle powertrain in Prius and will rival its sibling’s excellent fuel economy.

Comprehensive standard safety technologies in the new Corolla hatch include the latest pre-collision system with pedestrian detection* and autonomous emergency braking.

This system is able to detect vehicles or pedestrians at night as well as during the day, and it can also detect cyclists during the day.*

Other new technologies include Lane Tracing Assist** – a hands-on, driver-assist system that reduces driver burden and supports safe driving, especially in traffic congestion or long highway trips.

A new Road Sign Assist** will offer the ability to identify certain stop, give way, do not enter and speed limit signs. The safety package extends to active cruise control, lane-departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beam, seven airbags and a reversing camera.

New Corolla will offer leading-edge technologies and features, starting with LED headlamps, an upgraded multimedia system and an electric park brake.

Grade-dependent equipment includes 18-inch alloy wheels, 8-inch satellite navigation screen^, dual-zone air-conditioning, a 8-speaker JBL sound system, keyless smart entry and start, 7-inch colour multi-information display, colour head-up display and wireless phone charger.

Toyota’s vice president sales and marketing Sean Hanley said the new Corolla is a premium, high-quality hatch focused on performance and technology.

“Corolla will remain very competitive and affordable in the Australian market – and we expect it to continue as Australia’s best-selling car, a position it has held for each of the past five years,” Mr Hanley said.

“With its sharp design, increased safety, new petrol engine and transmissions, improved hybrid drive, larger interior and great new features, Corolla will continue to be the car of choice for a broad cross-section of the motoring public,” he said.

Corolla is Toyota’s most popular model in Australia with a cumulative total of 1.4 million sales representing more than one-fifth of all Toyota vehicles sold in this country.

The historical 3D Old Wing design Honda logo, chromed steel high-level front and rear mudguards – plus the chrome exhaust shield, circular mirrors and high-rise handlebars – all pay homage to the original and a host of modern touches bring this genuinely iconic machine into the next phase of its life.

The digital full-LCD circular meter features a speedometer, odometer with two trip meters and six-segment fuel level indicator.

All lighting is LED; the ‘wave’ pattern key (which also wears the Old Wingmotif) features an ‘answer back’ system that makes the lights flash at the push of a button to allow easy location in crowded car parks.

The single channel ABS breaking system operates with an IMU to mitigate rear ‘lift’ under strong braking and the Monkey features premium USD forks and twin rear shocks.

The air-cooled horizontal 125cc single-cylinder engine with PGM-FI and a 4-speed gearbox is simple, robust and tuned to deliver useful about-town performance.

The Monkey’s steel backbone frame is perfect for the wide variety of conditions the machine is sure to be ridden in.
